Alan Fennah is a British singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and recording artist whose career spans more than four decades. Emerging from Liverpool’s vibrant music scene in the early 1980s, he first gained recognition as a founding member of Alternative Radio, a band noted for its melodic song writing, atmospheric production, and distinctive blend of pop, rock, electronic and folk influences. The band signed a recording contract with EMI (Parlophone) in 1983 and released their debut single ‘Valley Of Evergreen’ in 1984.
The band built a reputation for strong harmonies, memorable hooks, and emotionally driven compositions. Alan and his brother, Rob, laid the foundation for a long creative partnership that would continue through numerous recording and production projects over the years.
As both an artist and producer, Alan Fennah has consistently embraced musical evolution. His work combines classic song writing craftsmanship with modern production techniques, drawing influence from rock, cinematic soundscapes, acoustic music, and contemporary electronic textures. Alan has contributed as a vocalist, guitarist, drummer, programmer, arranger, and producer across a wide range of original recordings.
In recent years, Alan has re-emerged as a prolific solo artist, releasing critically praised albums including Alone, Wanderlust, and Ugly Truth, Beautiful Lies? These recordings showcase a mature songwriter unafraid to explore personal reflection, social commentary, and cinematic storytelling. His music moves effortlessly between intimate acoustic pieces, expansive instrumental works, and powerful melodic rock songs, reflecting both introspection and creative ambition. His first solo album ALONE was recorded during the national lockdown of 2020. Alan said: ‘I had a lot of time on my hands during the lockdown. So, I decided to revisit songs that I had written - but not recorded. Some were older songs - that did not fit with the genre of ‘Alternative Radio’ and others were new songs written during the lockdown. I soon realised I had enough for a twelve-track album. I spent the weeks in lockdown recording the album which was released in download form on 7th June 2020. The pandemic restrictions meant that I had to wait 12 months before I could release the CD version which was released on 24th June 2021.
